Summary:
Jenna Harris, sweet and slightly nerdy, wants to report for a major newspaper. She takes her journalism degree to a small Great Lakes town to build her credentials and escape as soon as possible. She buys an old house in an Italian neighborhood on the bay front. Life on the block becomes lively when the charismatic Roger Bentley, a slumlord and technology pioneer, moves into an enormous house with a rumored past. He and his entourage, mostly lovely, spunky ladies, stir dissatisfaction in Jenna. Roger and Jenna share interests, flirtations, and a secret--a rumrunner's boat found in one of Roger's rental properties. The locals warn Jenna about digging into illicit activity in the town, and she feels responsible when Roger is shot in his home, probably by a recently released mobster with an interest in Roger's house and the possessions hidden there.
