The story revolves around author Jerry Wilde's struggles with kidney failure that led to the need for dialysis in his twenties. After two years being kept alive by a machine he was lucky enough to receive a transplant and for 17 years, he led a normal life. Everything changed when doctors accidentally discovered a large cancerous tumor on his transplanted kidney. The only way to save his life was to remove the tumor and the kidney. So after 17 years of the "good life" Wilde found himself back on dialysis.
