- "The Islamic Movement in Israel was officially established in the 1970s, though its origins can be traced back to even before the creation of Israel itself after World War II. Starting as a small grassroots organization that focused on strengthening the faith of Muslim residents, it grew to become a sociopolitical movement that has been able to claim a few seats in the Israeli parliament and that focuses on the protection of Palestinian people, land, and religious sites in Israel and occupied East Jerusalem.
