The book with its 21 chapters vividly describes the origin of Ganga from Glacier Gangotri, where Gomukh is the icy fountains. After the Alkananda and the Bhagirathi unite at Devaprayag they from the main stream known as the Ganga. Since 1951 many major irrigation project as have been undertaken, the largest of them are the Sarda Assis project and the Tehri Dam project, Chambal project, the Gandak, Kosi projects, Damodar valley project, Farakka project. Hydel power is a major source of energy in the Ganga River basin & several such projects have been established. Fish and Fisheries of River Ganga have been studied and recorded in the book. The Ganga Eco-system becomes a floating mine of Fish Spawn during monsoon season.
