Summary:
If ever there was an employment law fraught with grey areas, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is one. In part, this is because the law deals not only with humans, but more specifically, humans and their health conditions - a very personal matter. If a piece of machinery is having functional limitations, it can be repaired or replaced. No need to consider what could be done to make it easier for the machine to perform its functions, as with humans. The law and its implementing regulations provide some guidance, but ADA-related situations must behandled on a case-by-case basis, and employers need to consider a variety of details. Working with the ADA can help employers navigate these details.
