The U.S. energy service company (ESCO) industry is an example of a private sector business model where energy savings are delivered to customers primarily through the use of performance-based contracts. ESCO has largely been a successful model for the cost-effective delivery of energy-efficient technologies and services to public/institutional sector customers. This book analyzes the market size, growth projections and industry trends in ESCO, drawing on information from interviews with ESCO executives conducted in late 2012. It also provides a preliminary estimate of remaining ESCO market potential in terms of the onetime project investment potential and annual blended energy savings remaining in U.S. buildings typically addressed by ESCOs, based on market penetration estimates provided by ESCOs and industry experts.
