Summary:
The present Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2012 is one of the outcomes of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, adopted by the General Assembly in 2010. The General Assembly tasked the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with data collection and biennial reporting on patterns and flows of trafficking in persons at the global, regional and national levels, to be carried out in close collaboration with national authorities. This report presents a global overview of the patterns and flows of trafficking in persons and discusses the efforts countries have made to combat trafficking in persons and the progress that has been made since the Trafficking in Persons Protocol1 entered into force in 2003.
