Summary:
German literature is not exclusively written and read in German. Literature does not stop at borders, and German is permeated by numerous internal regional differences. The presentation of such diversity conceptually overwhelms a national literary historiography. Following on from more recent historiographical approaches, this volume therefore discusses the possibilities of literary global historiography. It opens a methodological discussion about how philological analyses, media issues and sociological perspectives on the book market, the literary business and literary studies can be combined. Using examples from around the world, the articles examine the premises of current literary history and try out alternatives. The volume seeks access to the globalization processes of 'German literature' starting from different subjects: in addition to contributions from international German studies, comparative studies, foreign language philology, book studies, postcolonial studies and digital humanities are also represented"--Publisher's description [translated]
