- Summary:
- Because the DSM-5 largely reflects a medical model, there is often concern by helping professionals that use of the diagnostic system precludes a holistic, wellness-oriented approach to client care. Yessenia Castro describes a framework for conceptualizing diagnostic assessment and utilizing the diagnostic system that is supportive of a strengths-based approach to case conceptualization and service provision. A clinical demonstration with a client shows the skills outlined in the strengths-based approach.
