- Summary:
- In 2001 24 black, coloured and white students from a high school in Cape Town met on a so-called Rainbow Camp. They confronted each other with questions regarding racism and reconciliation in South Africa. Today they meet again. They were the first 'born-free' generation of South Africa. A generation whose lives were formed after the brutal apartheid regime was abolished and Mandela had come to power. Children of Mandela profiles four of these students, two white and two blacks, who attended the original Rainbow Camp nearly 10 years ago. Back then they were united in their concern for a national reconciliation between races but since then their lives have taken different turns. Are they still committed to a common future? The Rainbow Camp reunion gives this first 'born-free' generation an opportunity to discuss how the new South Africa is really getting along.
