Het Saargebied stond in 1934 onder toezicht van de Volkenbond en de toekomstige bestemming van het land zou afhangen van een volksstemming die in 1935 gehouden zou worden. De betogers zijn tegen een hereniging met Duitsland en voor handhaving van de bestaande situatie.
