- Summary:
- For 60 years cotton farmers have fought the war against bugs on their crops with chemicals. Pesticides were sprayed 9 - 11 times per crop until recently when chemical residue was discovered in export beef. The industry now stands accused of polluting waterways and causing health problems with its spray drift. Bt Cotton, a genetically modified breed of cotton that exudes its own natural chemical, promises a way off the chemical treadmill. But is it the solution it's promised to be?
