Summary:

Saroji and her mother arrive in the town of Jankanur seeking refuge with Ramanathan's father -- a man they have never met. Of royal lineage and accompanied by a letter of recommendation, they are warmly welcomed by Ramanathan, in place of his father, who had passed away twenty-five days prior. When Saroji learns that Ramanathan had been adopted by his wealthy father, even though his parents were still alive, she feels deeply for his plight. Ramanathan's wife, Visalam, too shows much hospitality towards Saroji and her mother. However, the gossip that spreads around town threatens the kind intentions of Ramanathan and Visalam.
