- Summary:
- Thomas and Stellah are class mates and about to finish secondary school. Like young people anywhere they are preoccupied with exams, friends, love affairs and plans for the future. But Stellah and Thomas live in Pumwani, a poor slum area on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Two thirds of the 60,000 people living there survive on less than a dollar a day. 12% are infected by HIV and 5,000 children have been orphaned by the disease. The students from Pumwani is about growing up and learning taking responsibility. But it is also a story about poverty. Stella and Thomas' story may help us to understand why young Africans risk their lives to reach the lands of opportunities.
