- Summary:
- A substantial amount of research has examined functional, biomechanical, and neuromuscular changes associated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and repair. There appears to be a 'barrier' to ACL-related research concerning basic brain function, cortical plasticity, and cognitive function changes, all of which are likely to underpin the functional changes described previously, perhaps due to previous deficits in the required research techniques that are available. Beyond the Brain Barrier-ACL Injury and Brain Function reviews the investigative efforts that have employed increasingly sophisticated neuroscience research techniques in this field of interest to examine the potential affect of ACL injury and repair on basic brain function.
