Summary:
Filmed in Cambodia, Dancing for the Gods looks at the renaissance of Khmer classical dance which was all but destroyed by Pol Pot. Only five teachers - the 'living dictionaries' of its complex movement vocabulary - escaped the killing fields. One survivor, Proeung Chhieng, and Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, a former star dancer, have been responsible for setting up a new school and Royal Ballet. The demanding training of the dancers and the ancient traditions of their art are highlighted in this documentary.
