Summary:
Today's undergraduate students, most of who were born after 1982, are predominately classified as the millennial, generation Y, or the echo boom generation. The majority of millennials have had helicopter parents who are still intricately involved with their education. This situation has led to a consumerism attitude among many students, where some students view education as something to purchase rather than a learning process. In a generation that has grown up with the Internet, cell phones, iPods, MySpace/Facebook, and the Xbox, one of the key issues is how can athletic training educators compete for the students' attention in and out of the classroom? Millennial Students: Using Technology to Teach and Assess Athletic Training Knowledge reviews why athletic training educators need to understand how the millennial student learns, as well as how millennial students learn best. The video also explains how faculty can adapt to the relevant learning styles that are appropriate in the 'real world' of athletic training.
