- Summary:
- Brighton Bombing: With echoes of Guy Fawkes and Co's infamous attempt to blow up England's houses of Parliament in 1605, the bomb that targeted attendees at the British Conservative Party Conference at the Grand Hotel in Brighton was one of the most audacious terrorist attacks on British soil in history. The attack was orchestrated by the provisional Irish Republican Army or the IRA. And it was carried out in the early hours of the 18th of October 1984. Taiwan Earthquake: The epicenter of 1999's Taiwanese earthquake was here at Chi-Chi. The quake, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, took place just before 2am in the morning on the 21st of September. Known, accordingly, as the 921 quake, the disaster occurred along the Chelungpu fault line, which stretches down the western part of the island of Taiwan.
