- Summary:
- Hindenberg: On May 6, 1937, the Hindenburg airship burst into flames as it neared it's landing field at New Jersey's Lakehurst Naval Air Station. It killed 13 passengers, 22 crew and one member of the ground crew. The German built zeppelin had been in service only a year when disaster struck. Lindbergh Kidnapping: March 1, 1932, the Lindbergh farm in Hopewell, New Jersey became the center of an investigation that was to be remembered as the criminal case of the century. A crudely written ransom note and money found hidden in German carpenter Bruno Hauptmann's garage made him suspect number one in America for the kidnapping and murder of 20 month old Charles Lindbergh, Jr. Graceland: This home is the second most visited home in the U.S. after the White House. With 700,000 visitors a year, it is one of the most recognized dwellings on the planet. The Memphis mansion known as Graceland was home to Elvis until his death on August 16, 1977.
