- Summary:
- 1991 saw the promise of an end to the Cold War, and apartheid in South Africa. It also saw the death of a jazz legend. In the simmering Gulf conflict, Iraq was given a deadline to withdraw from Kuwait, which the Iraqi dictator ignored, forcing the US to respond with sustained bombing attacks and a land offensive, dubbed 'Operation Desert Storm'. At the same time the jazz world mourned the death of Miles Davis, widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.
