- 2001 was a year that saw the death of Beatle George Harrison, and terror strike the US again. Earlier in the year, the President was put under pressure due to his stance on Global Warming, and his refusal to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. But the real event of 2001 was the attack by Islamic terrorists on the World Trade Center's Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington on September 11, which killed three thousand, injured hundreds and changed New York's skyline - as well as America's sense of security - forever.
