- Summary:
- Experience the American Journey through our country's visual heritage in this historical recording provided by the National Archives of the United States. From the U.S. Army's 'The Big Picture' television series, 1950-1975. The departure of many American troops from the Far East is part of a major change in U.S. strategy. In this film presentation, the story of Japan's defense is told. Back in the post-war years, the United States provided American instructors to help the Japanese police in their training. 'The Big Picture' shows in a similar way, how we are guiding a new Japanese military organization, so that it may become capable of undertaking the difficult responsibility of National Defense. The Soviet threat to our West is being met by helping Japan defend itself and by standing behind her with our own forces in the event of Soviet attack.
