- Summary:
- This programme features a KS1 science lesson on the concept of light. Helen Ackerman, a mature NQT who has worked as a nursery nurse for many years, teaches a Year 1 class at Codicote Primary School, Hertfordshire and is not a science specialist. She has been working with Jane Turner, the Deputy Director of the Science Learning Centre, East of England, who has helped her with lesson plan ideas and resources. Helen introduces the lesson with a story about a bear that is afraid of the dark. She questions the children's concept of light, referring to the senses. She then encourages them to think about a dark place they have been in and then introduces key scientific words. She also sets up two investigations on light for the children.
