- Summary:
- A visit to America's capital can be enjoyed by one and all. The major public attractions are very family friendly and most are free. Start your visit at the Washington Information Center, where you can learn about the various sights and places to eat. Highlights of your visit should include a tour of the White House, the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Arlington Cemetery to pay respects to American war heroes and to see the Eternal Flame at President Kennedy's grave. Another must-see is the Smithsonian Institution, which is actually a complex of museums that reflect the history and culture of America. Other attractions to see are the Capitol Museum and the National Zoo. Also plan to visit Georgetown, one of the oldest neighborhoods in DC, where you can enjoy ethnic food and the local specialty, Chesapeake Bay crab.
