- Summary:
- Fort Lauderdale, with its 300 miles of waterways and 26 miles of ocean beaches, has been called "the Venice of the United States." It is fast becoming one of the most popular resort areas in Florida, attracting over five million visitors each year. It has over 30,000 hotel and motel rooms, ranging from quaint bed-and-breakfast cottages to 600-room world class hotels. This program takes viewers on a fast-paced, stimulating tour of Fort Lauderdale. The tour begins with a walk along pristine and bustling beaches, the most popular attractions in Fort Lauderdale. Viewers visit the Spring home of baseball's Baltimore Orioles, and then take a ride on the Water Taxi, visiting hotels, boutiques, and restaurants without ever having to set foot on a street or sidewalk. Viewers see the incredible mansions on "millionaire's row" and the exquisite shops on Las Olas Boulevard. Finally, viewers end up at "Butterfly World," where horticulturist Donna Backus introduces them to butterflies from New Guinea, South America, and the Philippines, all thriving in a natural outdoor habitat. The photography is bright and colorful, and the people are friendly and diverse, reminding us that Fort Lauderdale is truly a "city of choices."
