- Summary:
- WARM WELCOME FOR PRESIDENT: Colorful, enthusiastic celebrations greet President and Mrs. Johnson on their arrival in Honolulu and Pago-Pago, American Samoa. A royal welcome complete with hula dancers, flowers, handshaking, and record-breaking crowds mark the beginning of the President's 17-day, six-nation Asian tour which includes the upcoming Manila Conference. MANHATTAN TRAGEDY: A five-alarm fire in a block of stores results in the worst single disaster in the history of the New York Fire Department. Twelve firemen are killed when a floor collapses in a burning drug store. The bodies are found only after a twelve-hour battle against the flames. The dead heroes leave twelve widows and 32 children. SPORTS FOOTBALL COLGATE SHUTS OUT PRINCETON: A rugged Red Raider team from Colgate tackles the Tigers of Princeton before 34 thousand at Princeton's Palmer Stadium. Sophomore quarterback Ron Burton scoots over from 16 yards out for the lone score that hands Princeton its first shutout in 33 games. Final: Colgate - 7, Princeton - O.
