- Summary:
- Experience the American Journey through our country's visual heritage in this historical recording provided by the National Archives of the United States. From the U.S. Army's 'The Big Picture' television series, 1950-1975. This film presentation covers the Selective Service System in this country and the need for military preparedness, said to be more urgent today than at any time in our nation's history. At times it seems as if new and powerful weapons are making the individual soldier less important. Military experts say this is not so. Experience has taught them that an increase of weapons always increases a need for men. Through a Selective Service System this country is trying to mobilize in peacetime for any eventuality. Since Korea, Selective Service has delivered to the Army approximately two million men.
