Summary:
Racial segregation dominated life in South Africa during the early sixties. The system of Apartheid grouped people according to the color of their skin, with whites being the most privileged. When the man leading the fight against Apartheid was sentenced to life imprisonment, it became the main event of 1964. Nelson Mandela would spend 27 years as a political prisoner, and then on his release in 1990 he would be elected the country's first democratic President and leader of the African National Congress.
