- Summary:
- In January 1973, American President Richard Nixon suspended military action in Vietnam. When Nixon inherited the war from Lyndon B. Johnson, he embarked on a campaign to end US involvement by withdrawing troops, a decision which was welcomed by the American public, who had not been supportive of their country's involvement and had shown their disapproval by marching in mass protests since the government brought in conscription, an idea which the Australian Government took on despite the unpopularity of both the decision and the war itself.
