Summary:
THE WORLD SERIES: The Los Angeles Dodgers (ex-Brooklyn bums) give the New York Yankees the bum's rush in the first two games of the World Series. In the first game, left hander, Sandy Koufax sets a Series mark as he strikes out l5 Yankees. With the New Yorkers' vaunted power throttled, the Dodgers go on to down the World Champions 5 to 2. The second day is almost a replay of the first. Again, it's fine Dodger pitching and they, not the Yankees, are again the power at the plate. Before it's over the Dodgers are on top, 4 to I, and lead the Yankees two games to none as they head for the West Coast. WASHINGTON SPOTLIGHT: It's a busy few days in Washington for President Kennedy. First he greets Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, here on a state visit. The Emperor has ruled since 1916, before the President was born. Then he signs the Armed Services pay-raise bill that will add a fourteen percent increase to the pay of men in uniform. The same day he hears a report on the situation in South Viet Nam from Secretary of Defense McNamara and General Maxwell Taylor. YESTERDAY'S BIG STORY JUNE 3, 1935. The great new French luxury liner Normandie arrives in New York on her maiden voyage with a new trans-Atlantic record. It is the gala debut of an ill-starred vessel. Four years later war broke out and she was tied up in New York. Later, the Navy began to convert her to a transport and she caught fire. Despite heroic efforts of New York City firemen, she capsized at her pier. Salvage efforts were begun to put the vessel back into service as a troop transport. However, the need did not warrant the expense and the great Sea Queen was towed to the scrap heap...a tragic saga at an end.
