- Summary:
- This video deals with the quantum properties of the three main kinds of electromagnetic transitions: absorption, spontaneous emission and stimulated emission. It is divided in 5 segments. The first segment reviews the three main kind of electromagnetic transitions. The second segment analyzes the selection rules of the electromagnetic transition in the case of the hydrogen atom. The third segment introduces the two-level model and equations of Einstein in the study of the dynamics of the electromagnetic transitions. The fourth segment describes the life time of an atomic state and the natural line width in the spontaneous emission. The fifth segment discusses the experimental line width of the electromagnetic transitions and the broadening due to the collision between atoms and the Doppler effect.
