Summary:
In 1931, at Ballana and Qustul, a young Egyptologist, Walter Emery, investigated the bizarre and gruesome royal tombs of a mysterious culture known to archaeologists as the 'X-Group'. These mysterious mounds, dating from the 6th-11th Centuries AD, appeared to confirm tantalising reports by Arab explorers who traversed Ancient Nubia during the medieval period, suggesting the presence of mass sacrifice/mass suicide burials. But what were the origins of this strange 'death-cult' and what light may this shed on the birth of civilisation in ancient Black Africa?
