Summary:
TOWNS WIPED OUT IN NIGHT OF HORROR In one of the most horrifying disasters of modern times a flood in Northern Italy takes 1,800 lives. A great wall of water was sent over the Vaiont Dam by a landslide that poured from Mt. Top. The wall of water roared down the valley of the River Piave and wiped out towns and hamlets. In the village of Longarone, for example, 80% of the inhabitants died in the cataclysm. FOOTBALL MICHIGAN 7 MICH. STATE 7 At Ann Arbor, the largest crowd of the season, more than 100,000, see Michigan take on Michigan State. The underdog Michigan eleven starts rolling in the first quarter and takes the lead, 7 to 0. Michigan State doesn't get up to speed until the third quarter. Then the combination of Steve Juday and Sherman Lewis score and the game winds up in a tie - but a moral victory for underdog Michigan. BROWNS 35 GIANTS 24 The Cleveland Browns meet the Giants in New York in a game that decides the first place pro standing in the Eastern Division of the NFL. The New Yorkers run into a Giant-kil1er: Jimmy Brown. He makes tissue-paper of the Giant line - there's no stopping the great man. He takes a screen pass for 72 yards and a touchdown then gives a brilliant example of broken field running as he scoots 32 yards for another score. Cleveland - Jimmy Brown 35, New York Giants 24.
