The $310,000,000 purchase will be from U.S. surplus stocks and will help reduce the 1,000,000,000 tons in storage while at the same time benefit the U.S. balance-of-payments deficit. HAITI AND CUBA SWEPT BY HURRICANE Reports remain meager from isolated sections of both Haiti and Cuba as the two island nations assess deaths and damage as Hurricane Flora swept over their country sides. The death toll in Haiti is estimated at 4,000 and it is feared the Cuban toll will be as gruesome. CONVICTS RIDE HIGH, WIDE AND HANDSOME Inmates of the Texas prison at Huntsville stage their annual rodeo that draws thousands of outsiders to the penitentiary.
