- Summary:
- U.S. TO SELL GRAIN TO SOVIET BLOC At his news conference President Kennedy makes the announcement that the United States will sell surplus wheat to Russia and her satellites. The $310,000,000 purchase will be from U.S. surplus stocks and will help reduce the 1,000,000,000 tons in storage while at the same time benefit the U.S. balance-of-payments deficit. HAITI AND CUBA SWEPT BY HURRICANE Reports remain meager from isolated sections of both Haiti and Cuba as the two island nations assess deaths and damage as Hurricane Flora swept over their country sides. The death toll in Haiti is estimated at 4,000 and it is feared the Cuban toll will be as gruesome. CONVICTS RIDE HIGH, WIDE AND HANDSOME Inmates of the Texas prison at Huntsville stage their annual rodeo that draws thousands of outsiders to the penitentiary. It's their day to shine and the convicts stage a thrilling show. FOOTBALL SO METHODIST 10 - AIR FORCE O The Air Force Academy is toppled from the unbeaten ranks by an inspired SMU eleven. A blocked kick leads to an SMU field goal and a recovered rumble sends them on the way to the game's lone touchdown. The underdogs come out on top: SMU 10 - Air Force 0.
