- ELECTION DAY, 1966 Voters flood the polls to elect Governors, Senators, Congressmen and other state and local leaders. Republicans gain 47 House seats, three Senate seats, and eight Governorships. Among the Key Victories: Romney in Michigan, Percy in Illinois, Reagan in California end Rockefeller in New York. GIFT TO MEDICINE At U.C.L.A., the six-million-dollar Jules Stein Eye Institute is dedicated. The institute is the nation's most modern eye research, teaching, and treatment center. Dr. Stein, MCA Board Chairman, is a former ophthalmologist. The institute is the realization of a personal goal. FOOTBALL MINNESOTA TOPS NORTHWESTERN At Evanston, Illinois, Northwestern plays host to the "Golden Gophers" of Minnesota. Minnesota quarterback Curt Wilson throws two T.D. passes and carries for a third. Northwestern scores twice but it's a Gopher victory. Final: Minnesota - 28, Northwestern - 13.
