Summary:
MEXICO HAILS LYNDON B. JOHNSON: Record crowds hail President Johnson and his family on his arrival at Mexico City airport and wildly cheer the motorcade on its 9-mile ride to the Presidential Palace. The following day, a statue of Abraham Lincoln is unveiled, and President Johnson promises every effort to promote social equity in the hemisphere. SEA KILLS THREE: The super liner "Michelangelo," in New York for extensive repair, shows the terrible damage done by a monstrous wave during an Atlantic storm. Water poured down the companionways, crushing steel like so much paper. Three persons were killed and several injured. OPERA ERA ENDS: The Metropolitan Opera House rings down the final curtain with a gala show. A glittering audience hears 57 Opera stars sing their favorite arias. An office building will replace the 82-year-old landmark. . . .and the Metropolitan Opera Company and stars will move to a fabulous new home in Lincoln Center.
