- FIRST PRISONER SINCE TRUCE ARRIVE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA KOREA - At Inchon, just-released prisoners of war embark for Japan and transshipping to United States bound vessels. At Panmunjom, more prisoners of war pass through 'Freedom Gate' and in San Francisco the first prisoners of war released since the truce arrive, greeted by parents and well-wishers in emotional dock-side scenes. LIBERALS SWEEP CANADA IN NATIONAL ELECTIONS CANADA - Prime Minister Louis Saint Laurent receives the mandate of the voters to extend his party's eighteen years in office by a fifth term. RESCUE AT SEA A freak plane crash at sea is followed by an even stranger rescue; as the pilot is dragged from a mercy helicopter by his own parachute and plucked from the sea a second time by an old-fashioned longboat. BLAZE WRECKS GENERAL MOTORS PLANT MICHIGAN - A blaze touched off by a welder's torch razes a huge General Motors plant. Damages may total $70 million dollars, but loss of life is low. PRESIDENT SIGNS BILLS COLORADO - Business before pleasure. The trout streams beckon but first, a stack of bills passed by the just adjourned Congress are signed by President Eisenhower in an early desk session. NEW YORK - Race horse Helicopter wins a record purse at the Hambletonian, beating the largest field in the event's history, with the youngest jockey. And she's the only offspring of a previous winner to turn the trick! FOOD FOR KOREA CALIFORNIA - Tons of rice and other supplies are shipped to Korea, where crops neglected in years of savage conflict have left millions in want. HOOVER MARKS BIRTHDAY CALIFORNIA - Thousands of telegrams pour in to wish Former President Herbert Hoover a Happy Birthday. Now 79, he's our oldest living former Chief Executive.
