Summary:
GERMAN VETS AT U. S. PARATROOP SCHOOL In Germany, World War II comes full circles as German veterans of the conflict receive refresher training at the U.S. 11th Airborne Division's jump school. Learning modern methods, they'll form cadres for the newly reactivated West Germany Army. IKE'S DAY. Ike boosts the Cancer Crusade, welcoming 6-year old Joyce deZeller, herself a cancer victim, to start the national campaign for cancer research funds. Also at the White House, Ike plays host to members of the National Press Photographers, posing for snapshots by the score. MISS PRESS PHOTOGRAPHER. In Washington, D.C., the National Press Photographers Association holds its annual beauty pageant, and 19 photogenic lassies help prove once again that one picture is worth 1,000 words. HANDY HELICOPTERS aid French forces in Algeria. In terrain inaccessible to any other means of transport, the whirlybird ferries in troops and light equipment, then hovers low to haul jeeps out of mudholes. SPORTS EAST-WEST BASKETBALL. College all-stars stage a spectacular court contest before 14,000 fans. East wins 73-63 in a fast-paced thriller, starring Len Rosenbluth, Dick Duckett and Charlie Tyra for the winners. GRAND NATIONAL. A spectacular triumph for Sundew in the Steeplechase at Aintree, one of the turf's greatest thrillers and great ordeals. Less than half the 35 starters finish the 30 jumps and 4 1/2 mile course, but Sundew stays in front all the way-a sensational feat.
