Summary:
Behaviour Management guru John Bayley works with teachers to help them to improve their technique. This week he puts new teacher John Fuentes from Bexleyheath School in Kent through his paces. He records Fuentes at work in the classroom, reviews his progress and helps him develop essential teaching skills. Bayley says the secret to classroom discipline is giving clear instructions for an activity, rewarding hardworking pupils with praise and getting them fully involved in the lesson. It is also important to remember that one class rulebook does not fit all. Of all the challenges facing beginning teachers, dealing with disruptive behaviour is one of the most difficult. This programme shows how the collective wisdom of the profession can be called on to help beginning teachers in a systematic way.
