- Summary:
- This programme explores what leadership means to the staff of St Aidan's Primary in Gateshead, a school that serves a community that's in the top five percent of Britain's most deprived areas. Here the majority of pupils enter the school with skills well below the national average and seventy eight per cent of children come from single parent households. Headteacher Lesley Steele believes the school's success is in large part a result of the school's commitment to shared leadership. Everyone here is given the opportunity to take on responsibility and make their mark. Professor John Macbeath, Chair of Educational Leadership at the University of Cambridge, offers his insight into the circumstances of the school, and the way that problems related to being in a challenging area are being tackled.
