Summary:
Sue Dean is the Corporate Parenting Consultant in charge of the 500 looked-after children in Nottinghamshire. These are pupils in her virtual school; she monitors their progress like any headteacher. She relies heavily on her team of designated teachers throughout the county. In this programme we feature one of them, Hilary Madden, who works at Tuxford School in Newark, an 11-19 comprehensive school. Hilary believes in a needs-led approach, tailoring the education offered to the specific requirements of individual students. We also meet Josh, a looked-after pupil at the school whose alternative curriculum has been devised to include two days each week on placement at a local business.
