Summary:
Nothing like the amphibious invasion of Normandy had ever been attempted before. By June 6, 1944 Allied leaders had finalized their elaborate plan for the liberation of Europe. They had gathered a massive army and piled mountains of equipment all over England. Engineers invented special weapons and spies circulated bogus plans. The generals felt confident they had done their best to find a solution for anything that could go wrong. The one thing they couldn't be certain about was how, or if, a soldier could get across that beach alive. This is the first of three in a series depicting the total story of D-Day.
