O.A/S/ ACTS AGAINST TRUJILLO - IKE COMMENTS ON CUBA CRISIS: Meeting in Costa Rica, the Organization of American States takes the unprecedented step of imposing economic and diplomatic sanctions against the Dominican Republic, following charges that Trujillo ordered an assassination attempt on the President of Venezuela. The next topic, Soviet infiltration of Cuba, provokes an explosive reaction from Castro, and as the Cuban crisis seems to worsen, President Eisenhower at his White House press conference keeps open the door for conciliation between Cuba and the other hemisphere states. SEADRAGON CONQUERS NORTHWEST PASSAGE: The nuclear submarine Seadragon conquers the almost legendary Northwest Passage with the first underwater cruise from the Atlantic across the top of North America, surfacing briefly in Baffin Bay. Seadragon tops off its feat with a run to the North Pole, under the Arctic ice-pack, before heading into the Pacific. FLOODS DEVASTATE PHILIPPINES: Vast areas of the Philippines' chief island, Luzon, are turned into inland seas by two weeks of torrential rains. The flood disaster is on the scale of a national emergency, with thousands presently affected, and crop losses and the threat of epidemic posing grave threats for the future. ICE CAPADES PREVIEWED: At Atlantic City, New Jersey, a preview of the dazzling 21st edition of the Ice Capades, as the thrilling show sets out on national tour.
