Summary:
Gary Lewis is head of Kings Langley School, a mixed comprehensive school in Hertfordshire. This film follows him during the spring term, the peak time for recruiting the excellent new staff who are essential to the school's ongoing success. At the beginning of term Gary knows he has a number of important posts to fill but is dismayed to discover that an outstanding young technology teacher is considering moving on. Gary offers him an enhanced package and waits to hear the teacher's decision . At the same time he implements several measures aimed at retaining staff, including subsidising services to improve teachers' working lives. As term goes on Gary goes ahead with carefully designed advertisements in the TES for the vacant posts and well-planned interview days when candidates receive an introduction to the school from Gary and are required to teach a lesson before the formal interview. Will Gary manage to appoint staff of the calibre he's hoping for ...?
