PICTURING A METROPOLIS is part of the film retrospective UNSEEN CINEMA that explores long-forgotten American experimental cinema. Fox's "Looney Lens" series was launched to humorously highlight special effects camerawork. The split images of skyscrapers and automobiles are uncannily close to those used in Dziga Vertov's "The Man with a Movie Camera". The warping lens used to photograph Tenth Avenue, however, seems to puzzle the filmmakers. - BRUCE POSNER Al Brick, a longtime cameraman c. 1919-1950 for Fox News and Fox Movietone, made the only commercial footage of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, but this footage, heavily censored, was not presented to the public until one year later.
