- Summary:
- The ballet Solushka (Cinderella), by Sergei Prokofiev, was written as a commissioned work for the famous ballet company of the Kirov Theatre in what is now St Petersburg. Its premiere, however, actually took place in Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre on 21 November 1945. The work achieved international status with Frederick Ashton's version, which appeared under the English title of Cinderella in 1948. The accompanying recording of Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Cinderella is taken from a performance by the Opéra National de Lyon in 1989, choreographed by Maguy Marin. Set and costumes are by Montserrat Casanova, lighting design by John Spradbery, and the musical directorship of the Opéra National taken up by Yakov Kreisberg. Studio production of the Lyon Opera House recording was by Måns Reuterswärd.
