Summary:
VIETNAM REPORT One of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War takes place in Dong Xoai as Red Vietcong rebels try to over-run South Vietnamese troops guarding an airstrip. In the night action, South Vietnamese forces counted 250 dead....19 Americans among them. At least 700 Reds were killed as Rangers drove them back into the jungle. Meanwhile, air strikes from carrier-based planes were joined by B-52 bombers, which crossed the Pacific from Guam to hit at Vietcong concentrations. HONOR SPACE TWINS: The 'Heavenly Twins,' Colonels Ed White and Jim McDivitt, are guests at the White House as they receive the Exceptional Service Medals of the Space Agency. President Johnson invites the families of the astronauts to spend the night at the White House. FRENCH AIR SHOW: The international Air Show at Le Bourget field outside of Paris exhibits the latest designs in aircraft - fresh from the drawing boards. A propaganda coup for the Russians was the surprise arrival of the AN-22, world's largest plane. Less than two hours after the Russian giant landed, there was a tragedy. A United States B-58 jet bomber from a Spanish base crashed while landing. The pilot was killed and two crew members were seriously injured.
