Summary:
In 1999, Fair Furlong Primary School was spiralling out of control with an unenviable record of vandalism, bullying, poor attendance and poor standards of numeracy and literacy. Then Peter Overton was appointed, the school's fourth headteacher in two years. Peter turned the school round with an energetic curriculum of sport and playtime activities. He and his colleagues funded new initiatives using a wide range of funds available to education, including regeneration funds, grants, NOFF and sponsorship programmes. This programme illustrates how sport and physical activities can be used to nurture and inspire children as well as to respect and support the achievement of others. It gives an excellent overview on how to construct and fund the activities, making the best use of a school's staff and of outside resources.
