- Summary:
- Excellent Teacher Status became effective in schools in September 2006 and helps experienced teachers remain in the classroom without having to take on managerial roles. Martin Flatman manages the Excellent Teacher project for the National Assessment Agency and has agreed to assess three teachers from Ratton School in Eastbourne to see if they would make suitable Excellent Teachers. History Curriculum Manager Jane Pittman, science teacher Chris Reene and French teacher Mimi Woods have all been put forward by their Headteacher David Linsell, who feels they could make Excellent Teachers. A lesson of each candidate is monitored, and there are six standards each candidate will be assessed on throughout the half day assessment process. This programme follows our three candidates through the assessment process from classroom to interview stage and we hear what Martin feels are their strengths and weaknesses - and, ultimately, whether Excellent Teacher Status has been demonstrated.
