Summary:
Presented along with Dr. Robert Navarra, PsyD. A relational approach to addiction treatment is the missing component in most contemporary addiction treatment models based on concerns that working with the couple system too soon increases the risk for relapse. It turns out there isn't empirical support for this default assumption. Conversely, long-standing, and well-established research has consistently supported couple and family approaches in treating addictive disorders, defining relationship stability as the greatest predictor of long-term sobriety and recovery. This workshop integrates the "Couple Recovery Development Approach" from Dr. Robert Navarra's research of over 15 years, with the "Sound Relationship House" model developed by relationship experts Dr. Julie Gottman and Dr. John Gottman. Examples and demonstrations of specific strategies and interventions will provide a road map for professionals to help couples integrate recovery into family life, maximizing the chances for successful individual and family recovery.
